The Top Five Things Every Rancher Thinks YOU Should Know

Many believe that the ranch life is all “howdy doody” and something to be poked fun at. Well, I’m here to tell you that there have been some misconceptions about the ranch life, and people need to wise up. So here are some things that we believe you need to know—straight from the horse’s . . . I mean rancher’s mouth.

  1. We don’t just hang out all day, ride bulls, dress up as cowboys, spit chewing tobacco, and ride horses into the sunset; there is lots of work to be done on the farm and animals need to be taken care of.
  2. A jolly rancher is not a candy . . . it is a man who truly loves working on a farm with his bare hands . . . perhaps that’s something a little sweet after all.
  3. There is no down time to our job. We know that students get time off for summer vacation, employees get Christmas vacation time, and you can call in sick whenever you feel like it and there are no repercussions. Well, sir, that is not how the farm life is. If you’re out, then the lives of all your cattle and plant life is at stake, which is not the type of work to play hooky on.
  4. Boots are made for working. That means all you pretty women and those fancy boots of yours could stand some time in the field, pitching hay or gathering crops, rather than going out with your friends to those fancy malls in the city.
  5. Not every person who lives on a ranch looks like the Marlboro Man! That is a misconception that needs to be cleared up right now. There are some beautiful cowgirls out there too—you know.

I hope after taking a gander and reading this here post you’ll have a sense of what it means to be a true rancher. If not, then you better get off your computer and go spend some time with your rancher self. Cowboy
